2020 Trends for Black Entrepreneurs

Although we are at the midpoint of 2020, we thought it would be interesting to get feedback from Guidant Financial’s Trend Report. Guidant Financial released this dashboard report based on an email survey sent to over 3,000 active and aspiring black business owners in November 2019. While it’s understandable that the pandemic has destroyed the beta curve for this trend report, we still found a few interesting nuggets in it.

The report states in 2020 that more owners were motivated to open their business “to be their own boss” than to “pursue a business based on passion”. Are we really that focused on being in charge? Is being the boss a higher priority than money? Are there underlying reasons for that? What trends do we see for 2021?
